When Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie become popular because of their movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith, most parents name their babies either Angelina for girls or Brad for boys. But most of us use names that are unique not only in sound, but also in spelling. In most cases, the longer the names of the baby, the more unique it sounds. I, for one used a very unique name for my daughter. Paulette Annefreid. Paulette means small and humble, it’s from Latin and it’s also a form of Paula. I used Anne because my middle name is Anne, but I patterned her name from a Swedish singer Annifrid of Abba. Frid is a form of the name Frida which means peace. Its origin is from Iceland and German. I just used some imagination to create a different spelling for it so it won’t look plain.
With a baby boy’s name, it’s easy to think of a name because sometimes a boys name is not as complicated compared to girls. The most popular name for a boy is Jacob. We all know Jacob is a biblical name, and it’s from Hebrews. It’s meaning? Well the name means sup-planter.
Next popular name is Michael, which came from Hebrews. It means gift from God or who is like God. In the bible, St. Michael the Archangel defeated Satan and he was also the patron saint of the soldiers…so our troops should call on to St. Michael for guidance, right? And aside from that Michael is widely popular because of famous people who named Michael. Does Michael Angelo ring a bell, or, Michael Jackson, perhaps? I could go on to the next page for famous people with that name.
The name Joshua is also popular though, I don’t know why. Maybe because it sounds biblical and so is the meaning. Hebrew, use this name and for them it means Jehovah is generous and Jehovah saves. Also Joshua succeeded Moses as the leader of the Israelites in their journey to the Promised Land.
Next on my list is also a name from the bible. Joseph. There’s a 90% chance that one out of ten boys is named Joseph or if not has Joseph on their name. Aside from its meaning may Jehovah add/give increase; Joseph is also Jesus’ legal father. Of course you also read in the bible about Joseph the Dreamer right? He was sold by his brothers to slavery but then on the later part of his life, became the supreme power of Egypt.
I really like this next name on my list, because it is the name of the guy in The Bachelor. Caleb – it’s origin? You guessed it right, Hebrew. In Hebrew, the name practically means like the heart, but since it has the same consonant spelling for the word dog in Hebrew, it also used to mean dog. And like the other names I’ve mentioned Caleb played a role in the bible. He’s one of the 12 Israelite leaders who were sent by Moses to explore the Promised Land.
Did you notice that all of the popular names in this list came from the Bible? So next time you’re thinking of a good name for your son? Look in the Bible, you might find something good in there for your son’s name.
