Everything is set. The room is completely covered with baby items all in shades of pink. The tiny clothes, the child-friendly toys and sterilized bottles are already in their proper places. You’re done reading the library of baby journals, magazines and books. The whole house, including the gates, plugs and cabinets, is already child-proof. You’re ready for your baby girl to arrive.

Aside from delivering the baby, there’s only one thing left to do and that’s to give her a name. Coming up with a name for your baby is really a tricky situation especially for first time parents. Having and naming a child is indeed an overwhelming task. You’ve overflowing with ideas but you only have to choose two-three names. To make this task less difficult for you, here are a few ideas on how to come up with a name for your baby girl.
  • Keep it short and easy to remember
The reason for this is that you want your baby girl to be able to write her name easily during her early years in school. A short name will also be easier to remember by the people around her. Do not give her a first name that consists of four to seven words like Mary Elizabeth Michelle Grace. A long name will be confusing and difficult to remember.
  • Come up with names based from your family and friends
You can name your baby girl after a close or admired family member such as your mother or your father. You can also name her after your best friend who changed your life or has shown you an act of kindness that you find unforgettable.
  • Get ideas from famous characters and figures
If you’re a die-hard fan of Carrie Bradshaw or Paris Hilton, don’t use the name as it is. Getting name ideas from these celebrities aren’t totally a bad idea. However, it’ll be nicer if you combine it with other names to make it sound more original. For example, you can use Carrie with other names that you find noteworthy in your life.
  • Combine your names.
Combining your names is also a good option. Your baby’s name will have more significance if you merge your names. For example, your name is Anne and your husband’s name is John. You can merge it and come up with Joanne. However, combining names must be used carefully. Some parents take it too far that they make it sound too Hollywood (e. g. Brangelina, Bennifer).
  • Base your baby names from meaningful definitions
If you’re still out of ideas in coming up with a name for your baby girl, you can also find a name with a meaningful definition. For example, Angelica is a Latin name meaning angelic. Sophia is a Greek name meaning wisdom.

Naming your baby girl is not only exciting but it is also an important task. Have fun and be creative in coming up with a name. Whatever name you come up with in the end, a name is something that will forever be significant in your life and so as your child’s.
